The design decision

A compact monitor may benefit from HDI density, but product safety, verification and qualification come from the device’s actual requirements and development process.

What to consider

Separate sensitive analog acquisition from fast digital and power circuitry using a considered layout and return-path strategy. Define reliability, traceability and assembly controls with the responsible product team. A laminate or fabricator marketing claim does not establish medical-device compliance.

A practical review example

For a small sensor module, compare the routing benefit of microvias with the added verification and manufacturing controls. Keep test access for low-level signals and power rails in the mechanical plan.

Checks before release

  1. Use product-specific verification requirements.
  2. Review analog return paths and noise coupling.
  3. Maintain design and manufacturing traceability.

Connect this decision to fabrication

Use the material selector to organize the initial discussion. Keep proposed values separate from the approved drawing and document the effect of any change on the rest of the construction.

  • Start with enclosure, interface and assembly constraints.
  • Budget space for test access and rework.
  • Qualify the final product for its actual use environment.
This guide supports early design review. Device requirements, the applicable project specification and the fabricator-approved construction govern the released board.
