A useful quotation request makes the construction, quantity and acceptance requirements clear enough to avoid hidden assumptions.
What to consider
Provide outline and thickness, layer count, stackup, via spans, copper, materials, surface finish and impedance requirements. Add test scope, quantity, required timing and the current artwork revision. If alternatives are permitted, ask the supplier to price them separately and describe the engineering consequences.
A practical review example
Use one RFQ revision for every supplier. Track deviations in a comparison table so a cheaper quote with omitted testing or different materials is not mistaken for an equivalent offer.
Checks before release
- Send consistent fabrication data to every bidder.
- Separate optional alternatives from mandatory requirements.
- Identify the decision-maker for engineering exceptions.
Connect this decision to fabrication
Use the cost estimator to organize the initial discussion. Keep proposed values separate from the approved drawing and document the effect of any change on the rest of the construction.
- Separate setup, recurring fabrication and optional tests.
- Compare equivalent quantities, materials and acceptance criteria.
- Confirm the released construction before relying on price or delivery.
