The design decision

A DFM review verifies that the artwork and the manufacturing description represent one buildable construction.

What to consider

Review the stackup, via-span table, finished thickness, copper weights, material system, critical clearances and impedance notes together. Check that fill/cap instructions identify the relevant holes. Confirm whether fabrication exceptions change any package escape, reference plane or assembly assumption.

A practical review example

If the factory increases a capture land, repeat the local routing and clearance checks. An accepted manufacturing deviation can still invalidate the designer’s original escape geometry.

Checks before release

  1. Resolve conflicting drill and drawing notes.
  2. Approve material substitutions explicitly.
  3. Record final construction and exceptions with the release.

Connect this decision to fabrication

Use the design checklist to organize the initial discussion. Keep proposed values separate from the approved drawing and document the effect of any change on the rest of the construction.

  • Use rules confirmed for the chosen factory and construction.
  • Inspect return paths through every critical breakout.
  • Release consistent artwork, drills, stackup and drawing revisions.
This guide supports early design review. Device requirements, the applicable project specification and the fabricator-approved construction govern the released board.
